Community Observing
AOOS funds programs that bridge the gap between local knowledge and the broader scientific community. Fishermen and hunters who have spent generations on Alaska’s oceans and rivers contribute invaluable observations, which are shared to support navigation and sustainable resource management. Some programs also focus on curriculum development to pass this knowledge on to the next generation.
