Cook Inlet Particle Trajectory Tool
Intuitive particle tracking tool for maritime awareness, planning, and ocean research.
The new Particle Trajectory Tool is a user-friendly, web-based particle tracking simulation and visualization application that shows how oil, sediment, plankton larvae, and other particles move in and around the Cook Inlet Region, based on NOAA’s Cook Inlet Ocean Forecast System (CIOFS). Users access 3-D ocean models in the tool to run trajectory simulations without needing to be a numerical modeling expert. Trajectory simulation results are delivered through interactive online maps that can be easily shared with others. This publicly available resource will help meet regional stakeholder information needs for spill response and planning, resource management, improved navigational services, ocean model evaluation, and marine ecosystem research.
The Cook Inlet Particle Trajectory Tool is supported by AOOS and the interactive visualizations rely on the AOOS Data Portal cyberinfrastructure. Tool development was funded through the IOOS Ocean Technology Transition program.
Users must create a login, which allows for saving, cloning, and sharing simulations.
