Tara Miller
Tara is the Finance Manager for AOOS and is based in Moose Pass, Alaska. She oversees AOOS financial operations in coordination with contracted accounting, payroll, grants management, and financial service providers. Working closely with the Executive Director, this position supports the ongoing development and transition of AOOS financial functions, systems, and administrative processes as organizational capacity evolves, including a planned five-year organizational transition to expand independent financial and administrative operations.
Tara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies from the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Campus, with a primary emphasis in Psychology and dual minors in Anthropology and Sociology.
Tara brings more than 15 years of experience across various administrative and financial roles, including federal procurement, human resources, and tribal grant accounting. She also spent 6.5 years working through the Alaska SeaLife Center, providing comprehensive financial management, fiscal agent support, and grants oversight for AOOS, giving her a longstanding connection to the organization and its work.
A (mostly) lifelong Alaskan, Tara has a deep love for the state, its cultures, and the outdoors. She fondly remembers summers spent fishing the Tongass Narrows with her parents and continues to learn subsistence traditions during fall hunting trips to their home on Prince of Wales Island. Outside of work, Tara enjoys hiking, growing her garden and homestead in Moose Pass with her fiancé Danny, and caring for her dogs and chickens. She also serves on the Seward Area Hospice board and volunteers with her local library.
